About the event

Design Freedom is a 4 - part series elevating your authentic contribution for building the New World. In Design Freedom you are guided through the practical application of theory of change, business planning and narrative strategy from an embodied, solidarity economy, and freedom lens. Whether you are starting something new, revamping an established idea, or looking for ways to level up your current goals- Design Freedom is for you!

Session Overview

  • Session 1 - Design Transformation: Find the north star for our authentic contributions to building the New World can be a challenge. In this session you will have an opportunity to explore your work, project, or practice using a version of the Theory of Change to easefully establish clear short-term and long- term activities, goals, and impacts.

  • Session 2 - Design Financial Ecosystem - When we establish our authentic contribution to the New World it is important to ensure our ecosystem of receiving, generating, and applying financial resources in built on a sound foundation. Through this session you will have an opportunity to engage business planning as a pathway for personal and collective abundance. 

  • Session 3 - Design Narrative - How we tell the story of our work can make or break our success. Through this session you will explore key narrative strategies to help you shape the story of your work, create a visibility plan, and apply liberatory relationship building strategies to spread your message and create a thriving offering.

  • Session 4 - Community of Practice Day - In this culminating session each participant will have an opportunity to present their idea, economic strategy, and visibility plan to a small group, receive aligned feedback, and build your confidence giving voice to your authentic contribution.

  • Who should sign up for Design Freedom? If you are a non-profit executive, consultant, social good entrepreneur, small business owner, or anyone launching an offering, service, or product this course will help you strengthen your leadership. You are ready to tap into your authentic offering, looking to expand your understanding of solidarity economies, and excited about activating your creation. 
  • What will my experience be in Design Freedom? Design Freedom is a highly immersive and interactive workshop series. Expect to experience an integration of embodiment practices, emotional exploration, storysharing, and providing others feedback during the process. You will also have activities to complete between sessions that could take 2 - 4 hours depending on your experience level. Doing these activities ensures you are able to actively engage and contribute to the community of practice. Sessions will not be recorded and cameras will be asked to be on for the duration of the session. 
  • Are white people able to sign up? While Octavia’s Garden is focused on QTBIPOC and BIPOC leaders, Design Freedom is also open to white allies who feel a resonance with this offering. Design Freedom will be centering the needs, stories, and experience of QTBIPOC, and BIPOC individuals. Please self-assess your ability to co-hold a space with QTBIPOC and BIPOC individuals, your ability to participate from your full humanity, and openness to feedback about white supremacy dynamics. 
  • What is Octavia’s Garden? Octavia's Garden is a growing community of practice for BIPOC and QTBIPOC founders, creators, and initiators to build their capacity in healing justice, leadership, and collective economies. We are people who work with land, arts, emotional health, diverse capital, spirituality, and are building a new world rooted in freedom.     You are a member of Octavia’s Garden if you are a QTBIPOC or BIPOC person who had a 1:1 meeting, worked on a project, received consultation, participated in a listening session, or otherwise engaged Emanuel H. Brown and his practice in 2025. The true cost of this offering is $250 and amounts below are supported by the Solidarity Fund.

      You are considered a non-member if you have never worked with Emanuel H. Brown, and/or you do not identify as QTBIPOC or BIPOC person. The true cost of this offering is $250, anything above that amount contributes to the Solidarity Fund for QTBIPOC and BIPOC members of Octavia's Garden and the Georgia land project stewarded by Emanuel H. Brown.
